Home alone: Parents leave children for Vegas weekend
Jacob Calero and Michelle De La Vega, of San Ramon, Calif., on Friday left Calero’s two children, Joshua, 9, and Jason, 5, alone at home unsupervised so they could take a New Year’s Eve trip to Las Vegas.
San Ramon Police Sgt. Brian Kalinowski said that the parents could be facing child endangerment charges once information about the incident is presented to the district attorney.
During the day the boys were alone, they ate cold cereal for breakfast and heated up microwave meals for dinner. The boys’ grandmother called police New Year’s Eve when she realized they might have been left home unsupervised. . . .
When police found the boys, they were physically unharmed. The boys were placed in Child Protective Services and later turned over to their grandmother, who they are currently staying with. — KRXI
This wasn’t the first time they had left the kids alone, either. For that, Jacob Calero and Michelle de la Vega become today’s Stupid People of the Day. As of Wednesday morning, they had not yet arrived back from their trip and were expected to be arrested upon arrival.
Stupidity is too kind a word for Jacob Calero and “Doctor” Michelle De La Vega, D.D.S. The father and stepmother duo deserve time in jail for their criminal acts of leaving young children and a disabled child home alone for 5 days!! The fact that their attorneys would use these poor children’s dead mother as an excuse to reduce their bail is apalling. To say that Joshua and Jason “don’t want to lose their father too” – is ridiculous because 9 yo Joshua stated publicly that he wants his father to see jail time “so he would learn.” It is obvious that this is the mode of operatum in the Calero household – to let Joshua care for himself and his little brother while the parents have a good time. It is clear that these poor children have already lost their father to Dr. De La Vega. She gives all stepmothers a bad name for not having one ounce of maternal instinct in her bones. If I were in the jury, I wouldn’t hesitate to throw the book and the bench and everything in the courtroom at these two. 6 years jail time is not enough. They should be sterilized as well so as not to bring anymore children into this world to abuse and neglect. These children deserve love, attention and nurturing. These parents have shown through their acts that the don’t care for these kids. The fact that the father did not call the Police on Saturday when they attempted to contact him and instead waited 3 days later to call in – shouts out to the world that he could give a damn about his boys. They deserve to be in jail. Now, they know the fear that they just put their boys through. JERKS!!!!!!!!!

We don’t like Blogger. Anyway, I read your posting, but I can’t find anything which questions the simple fact that this couple left their children alone in their house for several days. If their grandmother was up to no good, too, then that’s definitely another part of the story, and needs to be told, but I haven’t yet seen the original facts called into question.
What were the parents doing in Las Vegas while their children were home alone? That’s what it comes down to.

If anyone should be called stupid, it should be the people who jumps into conclusion without seeing both sides of the story and not reading between the exmother-in-laws lines. Check out this website where people actually think and not jump into conclusions.

Dear Michael, it comes down to the fact that the parents are vacationing in Las Vegas by themselves because grandma offered to babysit and take the kids to the snow weeks before the incident.
The question is, why did grandma orchestrated such a traumatic incident if she really cares for the kids? And why did she wait ten hours after talking to Joshua and finding he is home alone before calling the police? Did she use the kids as pawns so she could establish a child endangerment case against the couple?

Ummm, Ana, to let you know, there are supposedly “beachfront property in Las Vegas”…Man made lake with sand, otherwise known as manmade beach…where Celine Dion owns a million dollar house?
If grandma is so normal, why did she exploit her own grandkids by having them talk to the media (the judge put a gag order because of this!),asking money and using her grandkids as why she needs money (i guess you missed this episode too).

Ana, the point is, never ever call anybody names until you have gathered enough evidence. They never had a fair trial because of public outrage, public made up their mind, the public is their jury…”no contest” is the best plea. Grandma not only ruined her ex-son-in-law and his wife, but her grandkids as well…all for her silent vendetta.
